Incident on state Capitol grounds ended safely

BISMARCK – An incident on the North Dakota State Capitol grounds on Monday, April 20, ended safely, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

Earlier in the day the Highway Patrol reported about 2 p.m., law enforcement responded to a report of a suicidal individual on the Capitol grounds.

At the time the report was made, the Highway Patrol information said a subject was armed with a pistol, a secure perimeter was established, and officers were actively working toward a safe and peaceful resolution. At the time of the report, the individual had made no threats to the public and all threats were directed only toward himself.

Multiple agencies were on the scene, including the Bismarck Police Department and the North Dakota Highway Patrol, along with additional supporting partners. The Highway Patrol report said there was no ongoing threat to the public, but the area was restricted while the situation continued.

About 6 p.m., the Highway Patrol released a report that the incident had ended safely, and a news release would be issued later.
