Z. Diehl still alive in boy’s state tennis tournament

On Friday, Oct. 9, Minot’s Zach Diehl collected a pair of victories in the consolation bracket of the North Dakota Class A State Tournament for individual play. After losing to Espen Schneider of Red River in three sets in the opening round, Dieh defeater Kellen Johnson 8-6, also of Red River in the next contest, and followed up that performance with an 8-2 victory over Jared Pitcher of Bismarck Century.

Diehl’s next showdown will take place in the consolation semifinals against Ryder McDonald of Grand Forks Central on Saturday, Oct. 10 starting at 10 a.m.

In other Minot tournament results, Aidan Diehl concluded his state appearance with a 1-2 match record, defeating Jake McCormick of Fargo Davies 8-3 in the consolation bracket. Meanwhile, Magician teammate Hunter Rice lost both of his tournament matchups, first to Blake Triebold of Valley City in the opening round, and then falling to Anthony Janes of Birsmarck Legacy in the consolation round.

In doubles, the Minot tandems of Josh Hegstad and Colby Opp, as well as Ridge Jaeger and Zach Renaud were both eliminated from tournament without record match victories.
