Girls Tennis: Minot North slip by Jamestown to snap 2-game skid
Emersyn Kopp won her first singles match of the season and also came out victorious during her doubles match as the Minot North girls tennis team registered a 5-4 victory over Jamestown on Tuesday, May 5, at Jamestown Indoor Courts.
Kopp won the opening set in a tiebreaker over Katelyn Monson at No. 4 singles en route to a 7-6 (5), 6-4 victory. She paired with Braxtyn Bennett at No. 2 doubles and topped Mylee Michel and Monson, 6-2, 6-3.
The Sentinels (4-5 overall, 3-4 WDA) and Blue Jays split the six singles matches. The edge in doubles went to Minot North, winning two of three matches. Julia Stoner and Alyviah Kopp delivered a win at No. 3 doubles over Daphne Olson and Emerson Pfau, 6-4, 6-4.
Stoner and Alyviah Kopp also won their singles matches. Stoner defeated Michel at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-3, and Aliviah Kopp bested Pfau, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 6 singles.
Bennett and Olson played the lone match to go three sets, with Jamestown (1-5, 1-5) getting the match point, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. Anna Hronova and Elise Roberts also delivered wins for the Blue Jays at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. They teamed up to win No. 1 doubles, 6-3, 6-0, over Addy Clark and Kate Weishaar.
Minot North snapped a two-game losing streak with the victory and are currently tied for sixth with Bismarck High in the conference standings with two WDA contests remaining.
The Sentinels travel to Fargo for a pair of non-conference matches on Friday, May 8. Minot North plays West Fargo Horace at noon and Fargo South at 3 p.m.
