Prokott strikes out ten in Beavers’ lone weekend win

Jonah Prokott struck out ten Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs in 8 1/3 innings before Connor Meldrom pitched two-thirds of an inning of shutout baseball, as Minot State earned the double-header split on Saturday with a 6-2 win in the second game.

Noah Madas drilled a three-run home run in the bottom of the first, also scoring Mark Ossanna and Ricky Apodaca, as Minot State opened up a 4-1 lead. In the eighth inning, Grant Gabbert scored on a throwing error after Madas hit a sacrifice fly to center field. One batter later, Apodoca scored his second run of the game on a Seugjun Song single.

The Bulldogs added a second run in the top of the ninth when Garrett Stauffacher singled home Troy Lynch for the final run of the game. Oran Hinkle scored the other run for Minnesota Duluth in the top of the first.

Chad Fox got the start for the Bulldogs, lasting six innings that saw him give up four runs on six hits while striking out three. Mason Theil allowed two runs on three hits in two innings of relief.

Minnesota Duluth jumped out to an early 2-1 lead before using a four-run fourth inning to cruise to a 7-3 win.

Minot State did score one run in the bottom of the seventh inning when Brent Riddle scored an unearned run, but J. Gutierrez grounded into a game-ending double play to end the rally.

Braydon Buttweiler pitched a complete game for the Bulldogs, allowing three runs, two earned on seven hits while striking out four.

Minot State also fell to the Bulldogs 9-2 on Sunday to drop to 13-26 overall and 10-19 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) play. The Beavers will travel to Northern State on Wednesday, April 24 before returning home to host St. Cloud State in a three-game series this coming weekend.
