Prep Baseball: Minot High’s bats go quiet in losses to Legacy
The Minot High baseball team collected 10 hits over the course of its doubleheader against Bismarck Legacy, but could only turn that into a single run in a pair of losses on Thursday, April 16. The Sabers won the opener, 3-1, before capturing the nightcap, 9-0, to secure the conference sweep.
The Magicians (4-4 overall, 3-3 WDA) produced seven hits in Game 1 – all singles. Drew Jordan led the way with a 2-for-3 night. Oliver Deschamp drove in the lone run on a single to right field in the sixth to score Remington Anderson.
Before Deschamp got the Magicians on the board, the Sabers had plated the first three runs of the game. They scored runs in the first, second and fifth innings. Brady Wike doubled home Karter Pearson in the first and did so again in the fifth. Tayvian Hawk scored in the second.
Legacy (5-3, 4-2) had five hits in the game, with Wike and Pearson both with two.
Nate Heil pitched a complete game for the Sabers, allowing one run on seven hits, striking out seven.
Gavin King got the start for the Magicians. He pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing three runs – two earned – on four hits, striking out two and walking three. Carter Bush entered in the fifth and pitched the final 1 1/3 innings. He allowed one hit and struck out two.
Deschamp reached base safely in three plate appearances in Game 2, going 1-for-1 with a pair of walks. Jordan and Owen Meyer had the other two hits. The Magicians had eight total baserunners. Minot High had just one runner reach third base – Deschamp in the sixth.
The Sabers scored five in the third, three more in the fifth and another in the sixth off seven hits. Jack Julson and Pearson both tripled and combined for three RBIs. Cole Wike drove in two. Riley Gabbert was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Cole Wilk picked up the win for the Sabers, tossing six-innings of three-hit ball. He struck out seven and walked four. Carter Johnson pitched a 1-2-3 inning in the seventh.
Minot High travels to Bismarck High for a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 21, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
