Girls Track & Field: Majettes win pair of events, place 5th at Kiwanis Meet
Sophia Lade and Chinagozi Ugobi took the top spot in their respective events, helping the Minot High girls track & field team to a fifth-place finish at the Mandan Kiwanis Meet at Starion Sports Complex on Thursday, April 16.
Lade won in the 800 meter event, crossing the finish line in 2 minutes, 25.08 seconds. She finished two seconds ahead of Bismarck High’s Hannah Hintz (2:27.08). Lade was the lone victor for the Majettes in a track event. Eve Knutson placed fifth in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 53.72.
In the field events, Ugobi captured the triple jump title with a leap of 35 feet, 10 inches. Ugobi won by more than a foot over Bismarck Legacy’s Cambree Volk (34-6).
The Majettes finished fifth in the 10-team event with 64 points. Minot North was ninth with 21.5 points. Legacy won the meet with 134 points, taking the top spot in six events: 200 meters, 400 meters, shot put, discus, long jump and the 4×400 relay.
Mandan placed second with 127 points, followed by Bismarck High (123) and Bismarck Century (110). Seven teams won at least one event.
Minot High’s Hadlea Faul placed third in the shot put with a throw of 36-10.5. Also cracking the top five in a field event for the Majettes was Gracyn Bergan in the long jump. Bergan leapt 16-8 for a fifth-place finish.
Macey Blake was Minot North’s top competitor, taking fourth in the long jump with a distance of 16-9. Brisa Lusson took sixth in the discus with a toss of 113-7.
The Majettes and Sentinels compete in the Hank Pankratz Meet at the MDU Resources Community Bowl in Bismarck on Tuesday, April 21, at 11:30 a.m.
