The Minot State Beavers took down the Jamestown Jimmies 2-1 in their first game of their double header, but dropped the second game 4-1, ending their then seven game win streak.

Junior right-handed pitcher Katie Newberry led the Beavers defensively in the first of the Beavers’ two games, securing seven strike outs and not allowing a single walk during her time in the circle.

Senior Sara Van Wickler got the ball rolling for the Beavers offensively when she singled into left field, allowing senior Taylor Smith to run home, making it a 1-0 game in the bottom of the first.

Newberry kept the Jimmies at bay through clear to the bottom of the fourth when a passed ball let Van Wickler run home from third base, giving the Beavers some extra room to breathe.

The Beavers hit one RBI in the top of the fifth inning, but Newberry and the Beavers’ defense kept the Jimmies from tying the game, ending the top of the seventh with a 2-1 victory for Minot State.

The Beavers earned their first loss in eight games after the Jimmies capped off the evening with a 4-1 victory over the Beavers.

Jamestown took charge in the top of the third inning, securing their first run of the game with a single RBI. The Jimmies scored again in the top of the fourth inning.

The Beavers’ only run of the game with sophomore Brooke Hyde’s RBI double into right center field.

The Jimmies scored two additional runs in the top of the sixth inning and kept the Beavers from earning another run before the end of the game. The second game of the night ended in the bottom of the seventh with the Jimmies victorious at 1-4.

With their split double header, the Beavers earned a new record on the season of 27 wins and 17 losses.

The Beavers will continue their weekend of NSIC play as they take on Northern State University on the road on Sunday, Apr. 19.
