Bradley Hunt attorney asks to waive pretrial conference

An attorney for former Minot State University quarterback Bradley Hunt, 21, of Burbank, Calif., has asked to waive a pretrial conference on an aggravated assault charge that was scheduled for Wednesday in North Central District Court.

In December, Hunt entered a not guilty plea in absentia to striking Matthew Lohman during an altercation at the North Dakota State Fair Flickertail Gardens on July 24, 2015 and causing Lohman to fall and hit his head on the concrete floor. According to a criminal affidavit filed with the court, Lohman sustained a brain injury and will continue to have some longterm impairment.

The incident allegedly began with a verbal altercation between two groups at the Flickertail Gardens. Hunt allegedly struck Lohman in the head when Lohman turned to talk to a woman and Lohman then fell and hit his head. Law enforcement officers also say that Hunt then kicked Lohman’s brother, William Lohman, in the face when William Lohman got on the ground to check on his brother. In addition, Hunt is accused of assaulting a security guard who tried to break up the fight. Hunt also reportedly fled from a Ward County Sheriff’s Deputy through a row of farm equipment and tried to hide in the Fur Trader’s Rendezvous area at the fairgrounds after the incident.

Defense attorney Robert Bolinske told a judge in November that Hunt was treated at Mayo Clinic following the accident and has been receiving physical therapy in his home state of California. Judge Richard Hagar agreed in November to allow Hunt to return to Burbank, Calif. on a $10,000 unsecured bond, which he would have to pay if he fails to show up for the next court appearance. The North Dakota Supreme Court site does not show a trial date as yet for Hunt.

Hunt is charged with aggravated assault, a Class B felony; two counts of Class B misdemeanor simple assault and one Class B misdemeanor count of refusing to halt.
