The Minot North Sentinels girls soccer teams made school history on Tuesday night, May 5, as they picked up their first ever win against the Minot High girls soccer team in a close 3-2.

Senior midfielder Julia Lewis kicked the night off for the Sentinels with the first goal of the night in the 11th minute of play. She was assisted by eighth grader Morgan Orth.

Seventh grader Brengiei Lonning scored the second goal of the night, assisted by junior Kohlee Roberts, to give the Sentinels a 2-0 lead over the Majettes in the 14th minute of the first half.

Both teams went scoreless through the rest of the first half, but the second half saw the Majettes fight back hard to maintain their five game unbeaten streak.

The Majettes first responded in the 54th minute of play when sophomore Kaylee Jackson launched the ball into the back of the net with an assist by senior Jayva McKibben to cut the Sentinels’ lead down to one goal.

Soon after, sophomore Avalyn Lopez tied the game up at 2-2 with her unassisted goal in the 61st minute.

The two teams fought back and forth through the remainder of the second half, but it was the Sentinels who emerged victorious when Kohlee Roberts scored a goal of her own in the 77th minute of play with assistance from junior Anistyn Perrin.

With Roberts’ goal in the last few minutes of play, the Sentinels secured their first ever victory against the Minot High girls soccer team.

The Sentinels’ offense wasn’t the only thing that gave them the edge over the Majettes on Tuesday night. Senior goalkeeper Camryn Guy had 11 saves on the night for Minot North, as opposed to the Majettes’ three saves.

Minot North’s victory over Minot High ended the Majettes’ five game unbeaten streak, but the Majettes will be back at home for the next game as they take on the Bismarck Century Patriots on Thursday, May 7. Their record on the season fell to 7-2-1.

The Sentinels improved on their record for the season to 8-2-1.
