WASHBURN - Two Washburn residents have been charged in South Central District Court in McLean County with theft from the McLean County Historical Museum in Washburn.
Roger Allan Heinle, 56, is charged with conspiracy to commit theft of $10,000-$50,000, a Class B felony; dealing in stolen property, possession of a firearm by a felon or violent misdemeanor, possession of methamphetamine-second offense and possession of drug paraphernalia, manufacture, all Class C felonies. He also faces a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia from a separate incident in June.
Amy Elizabeth Tedford, 32, is charged with conspiracy to commit theft of $10,000-$50,000, a Class B felony, and dealing in stolen property, a Class C felony.
According to the court affidavit, the McLean County Sheriff's Office received a theft report from the McLean County Historical Museum in Washburn on Aug. 7, with a vehicle plate number registered to Heinle. The reporting party at the museum mentioned two individuals had entered the museum on three separate days before items were noticed to be missing.
The two subjects had entered the museum on Aug. 3 and again on Aug. 6. During the second visit, the female engaged the museum representative in conversation while the male walked around and was heard banging drawers in the Native American display. They also brought a U.S. Army flag to donate.
On Aug. 7, a display case was found open and items missing. Numerous items were listed as stolen, from a pocket watch and Washburn police badge to a collection of arrowheads and other Native American artifacts.
A jury trial has been set for Dec. 17 for both Heinle and Tedford. A trial is set for Oct 29 for Heinle on the separate drug paraphernalia possession charge.
