DCB promotes leadership through service

By MDN STAFF 1 min read

BOTTINEAU - A leadership class at Dakota College at Bottineau recently assisted the Minot Rotary Club in a fundraiser by assembling rose bouquets. The Rotary Club sells bouquets of roses to area businesses who, in return, give the bouquets to their employees or recognize other individuals. The money generated by their project supports scholarships for area students.

"Leadership is about showing up for your community,” said DCB freshman student athlete Jordan Watson.

The class offered each semester at DCB teaches leadership through community service. Students are introduced to methods of improving social, political, community and family life. Class time introduces students to opportunities for leadership discussions such as self-efficacy and the importance of communication in leadership.

The Leaderjacks have conducted local projects, including a fundraising opportunity on campus this fall, working at the food pantry, putting together backpacks for Lutheran World Services, assembling fleece blankets for first responders to distribute to children, as well as fall clean-up at the Good Samaritan nursing home.
