Women’s Wrestling: Beavers open season with loss at Waldorf

The Minot State women’s wrestling team recorded three pins, but it wasn’t enough as the Beavers dropped its season opener, 32-16, to Waldorf University on Friday, Nov. 7.

Lovey Beebe, Haleigh Lematta and Aliana Barnoski each gave the Beavers five points with the pins of their respective opponents. Beebe took down Emily Hibner in 1 minute, 51 seconds at 138 pounds. Lematta pinned Niah Smith at 145 and Barnoski submitted Laura Merino in 52 seconds.

Minot State’s other point came at 103, with Kaiya Lopes dropping an 8-2 decision to Alanis Serrano-Rios.

Waldorf received points in seven of the 10 weight classes, getting 10 free points off a pair of forfeits at 110 and 117. The Warriors received pins at 131, 180 and 207, as well as a 10-0 technical fall by Amanda Durrant in 45 seconds at 124.

Minot State takes part in the Waldorf Open on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 9 a.m.
