Girls Soccer: McKibben nets lone goal in Minot High’s win over Demons
The Minot High girls soccer team peppered Bismarck High goaltender Gabby Bruer to the tune of 22 shots on goal. Bruer stopped all but one, and thankfully for the Majettes, one was all they needed.
Jayva McKibben scored the lone goal of the match in the 52nd minute to propel Minot High to a 1-0 victory over Bismarck High on Tuesday, May 19, at Sanford Sports Complex. The Majettes have won four straight matches.
After a scoreless first half, Minot High (11-2-1 overall, 11-2-1 WDA) broke through in the second half. The scoring play began near midfield, with a through ball finding its way to Kaylee Jackson. Jackson fought off a defender before working her way back to the ball. She fed a pass to McKibben, who split a pair of defenders before firing a shot into the back of the net past Bruer for the game-winning goal. It was her seventh goal of the season and third against the Demons (2-10-4, 2-9-4).
Minot High goalkeeper Kynsli Gillmore had a quieter night in net compared to her counterpart. Gillmore made three saves for her eighth shutout of the season.
The Majettes travel to play Williston on Thursday, May 21, for a 7:30 p.m. match. They close out the regular season on Friday, May 22, at Bismarck Legacy at 7 p.m.
