Honeybees batting a ‘Night Mare’ for Madison

MADISON, Wis. – The Honeybees continued their road trip to start the season with a stop at Madison to face the Night Mares on Friday, June 21, before heading home to Minot. Madison lived up to their Mascot name with two runs through three innings of play. Minot then woke from the dream and scored five runs at the top of the fourth inning of play, four more at the top of the sixth and four more at the top of the seventh with a 13-5 win.

At the top of the fourth inning, with one single and two walked batters – and two outs, Cairah Curran was walked for the first score for the Honeybees. With the bases still loaded, Shannon Nelson doubled to score two runs and the next batter, Shayna Myshrall doubled to score two more runs.

Minot was 11-for-32 at the plate with two errors as a team. Of the 11 hits, four were doubles and the rest were singles. Curran and Nelson were each 2-for-3, scored three runs each and combined for four RBIs in the win. Sydney Farmer was 2-for-4 and Josie Buhr was 2-for-5 batting. Myshrall, Caitlyn Dannenfelzer and Kaitlynne Allen each added a hit in the effort.

Jasmine Blizzard pitched five innings for Minot and allowed four runs on six hits. She also walked two batters and tallied five strikeouts. Payton WHitehead pitched two innings and allowed one run on four hits. She walked two batters and had two strikeouts in relief.

Madison was 10-for-30 at the plate with three errors as a team. Carly Oliver was 3-for-4 batting. Chloe Wamboldt was 2-for-3 while Haley Remington was 2-for-4 at the plate. Hilary Blomberg, Lexie Shaver and Addie Blomberg added a hit each in the loss. Holly Lowenberg pitched four and two-third innings and allowed two runs on five hits. Kendall Weik pitched two and one-third innings and allowed 11 runs – nine earned – on six hits in relief.

Madison (4-2) packed their bags and traveled to Minot (2-3) for a three game outing with the Honeybees as they open with a historical home game on Tuesday, June 25, at Corbett Field.
