Weishaar cards rare albatross with hole-in-one at MSU’s Aloha Scramble
The rarest of accomplishments in golf is the albatross, also known as the double eagle, with the odds sitting at 1 in 6 million.
Recent Minot North graduate Kyler Weishaar will forever be able to lay claim to the fact that he has accomplished the feat. Weishaar carded a hole-in-one on the Par-4 first hole at Beowolf Golf Club during the Minot State University Men’s Basketball Aloha Scramble on Thursday, June 18. To make the moment even richer – literally – Weishaar’s hole-in-one awarded him an insured hole prize of $75,000.
The Aloha Scramble featured 26 teams of four. Weishaar teamed up with Dustin Weishaar, Al Packulak and Billy Ziegler. The group finished tied for second, shooting 15-under par. Kyler Weishaar gave them a double eagle on the opening hole and they proceeded to eagle the second hole to start 5-under through two holes. They birdied 10 of the final 16 holes.
Weishaar’s group finished tied for second with four other teams. They finished one stroke behind the winning team of Todd Hillested, Rillie Domres, Jason Merck and Jeff Halland, who carded 14 birdies and one eagle. They birdied every hole on the back nine.
Kyler Weishaar finished his high school career by finishing tied for fourth at the state tournament with a two-day total of 152, helping Minot North to a fourth-place finish. Kyler Weishaar and the Sentinels won the program’s first state title during his junior season. He was named the WDA Senior Athlete of the Year this season and finished in the top 10 in scoring in the conference with an adjusted average round score of 76.88.
