Majettes take third, Minot North participates in Watford City Invite

The 2022 girls’ golf season kicked off on Friday, as head coach Scott Foltz and the Minot High Majettes hit the road to Fox Hills Golf & Country Club in Watford City to participate in the Watford City Invite.

This marks the first event of the season for the Majettes, who had a strong showing by finishing in third place in a field that had eight teams competing.

Century came in first with a team score of 309. Following Century was Mandan (311), Minot (321), Legacy (323), Williston (347), St. Mary’s (355), Dickinson (402), and Watford City (422).

Participating in the event for Minot and leading the way was Mackenzie Strange, who shot a 75 on the day. Following Strange was Adison Dittus (80), Cali Wilson (82), Morgan Strange (84), Katie Thomas (90), and Emily Houim (92). Adison Dittus’ and Mackenzie Strange’s scores placed themselves among the top ten individual finishes at the invite.

“Mackenzie Strange mixed a solid driver with an outstanding short game to finish third today. Cali Wilson and Morgan Strange turned in solid rounds to finish in the top 15,” Foltz tells the Minot Daily News. “Adison Dittus played a no nonsense round and kept the ball in front of her the entire round and shot a personal best 80.”

The overall top finisher was Hannah Herbel of Century, who shot a 65. Rounding out the top ten was Anna Huettl – Mandan (70), Ruby Heydt – Mandan (75), Mackenzie Strange – Minot (75), Brooke Hollar – Legacy (78), Aliyah Iverson – Century (79), Regan Braun – Century (80), Adison Dittus – Minot (80), Ava Kalanek – Legacy (81), and Abi Schneider – St. Mary’s (81).

In addition to the successful run for Minot High, it was a historic day for the Minot North Sentinels as the school had two athletes participate in the event as individuals. Emersyn Kopp and Kinzy Welstad hit the links on Friday afternoon, with both of them shotting an 84 in the first varsity competition for the Sentinels.

There will be a quick turnaround for the next scheduled event, as the girls will begin play in Jamestown on Monday and Tuesday for the East-West Classic at Jamestown Country Club.
