MANDAN – The Minot North boys golf team picked up its second title of the season, winning the Mandan Invitational at Prairie West Golf Club on Tuesday. Led by Kasen Rostad’s 74, the Sentinels placed three golfers in the top ten to edge Bismarck Century by two strokes.

Rostad birdied two of his first three holes on the day; however, par 3s proved his Achilles heel on the day, shooting four-over on them while recording only one par. Nonetheless, the junior’s 74 was good enough to tie for third-place overall with Mandan’s Jayce Johnson.

Other top ten finishes for Minot North included Tyler Bast (T5-75) and Bennett Barsch (T7-76). Minot High eighth grader Parker Argent just missed out on the top ten, finishing in a three-way tie for 12th place with a 78.

The invitational was an individual qualifier for the 2024 NDHSAA Boys Golf Class A State Tournament, with golfers carding a 79 or below qualifying for next month’s tournament. In total, 18 golfers posted the requisite score or better. The group was led by medalist Quinn Shillingstad, a sophomore from Bismarck St. Mary’s, who shot an even par 72. Shillingstad finished with four birdies, two bogeys and a double-bogey. Teammate Ryker Landers finished one stroke back of Shillingstad with a 73 to place runner-up on the day.

Rounding out the top ten were Bismarck Century’s Parker Beck (T5-75), Jamestown’s Camron Anderson (T7-76), and the trio of Jamestown’s Hunter Gegelman and Bismarck Century’s Tripp Toepfer and Lucas Schoepp all shot 79s to tie for ninth place.

After Minot North (305) and Bismarck Century (307), the top five teams were Jameston (314), Bismarck St. Mary’s (319) and Bismarck High (327). Minot High just missed the top five, finishing nine strokes back of the Demons with a 336. Mandan (338), Bismarck Legacy (339), Williston (342) and Watford City (348) rounded out the top ten. Dickinson (357) placed 11th and Turtle Mountain Community was 12th.

A week after Minot High hosted the WDA at Souris Valley, it will be Minot North’s turn on Friday, May 10, when teams descend on The Vardon Golf Club for another Minot Invitational.
