Patriots ahead of Sentinels at Dickinson invite

DICKINSON — The final Western Dakota Association golf invitational of the season was held in Dickinson. The top two teams through the course of the season, Bismarck Century and Minot North, were the top two teams in Dickinson as well. Century took the win with Minot North in second place.

Sophomores Kyler Weishaar and Walter Langhans both shot a 78 and tied with two other players for 11th place on the day while fellow Minot North juniors Bennett Bartsch, Kasen Rostad and Tyler Bast carded 79 for the round and tied each other for 15th place. The team total of 314 was seven strokes ahead of Mandan in third with a 321 but 17 behind Bismarck Century in first place with a 297 team score.

The Patriots freshman Parker Beck shot a 73 and tied for first place while senior Lucas Schoepp hit 73 for third place and sophomore Fynn Sagsveen with senior Aidan Kaufman carded 75 and tied with one other golfer for fourth place. The last member of the Century team, sophomore Afton Bartz shot a 77 and tied with three others in a tie for seventh place.

Minot High finished in eighth place at the invitational. Eighth grader Parker Argent led the team with an 82 and tied for 21st on the day. Seventh grader Carson Fiske came in at 84, tied for 26th while junior Carter Dunstan was at 87 and tied at 40th. Minot High sophomore Mattson Burckhard finished at 90, freshmen Conner Ressler was at 92 and Nathan Peterson carded a 95 for the round.

The Williston Coyotes finished at fourth with a team score of 325 and Bismarck St. Mary’s rounded out the top five with a team 327 for the day. In addition to the previous state qualifying rounds during the season, players within seven strokes of the best score, or par for the course – whichever is higher – will qualify for the state tournament from the regional tournament. The top six teams at the regional tournament will qualify as well.
