Majettes swim & dive bests Dickinson, Sheyenne in duals action

The Minot High Majettes’ swim & dive team continued their dominant beginning to the 2021 fall campaign in mulit-duals action Friday evening, topping West Fargo Sheyenne 116-70 and besting Dickinson 138-48 at the Magic City Campus for its fourth and fifth victories of the young season.

Before the meet began, head coach Emily Jensen noted how grateful her team was to host the Mustangs all the way from Fargo, North Dakota, as the Majettes rarely get the opportunity to put their best on display against teams from the eastern region.

Throughout the season, the Majettes’ flexibility and ability to correct and improve upon areas that are not working have been instrumental in their strong beginning to the season.

“They have the ability to just keep rolling with whatever we give them and their determination to try new things,” Jensen said. “We see what works and we go back to the drawing board when we find out that something doesn’t work.”

Minot kicked off the evening with wins in the 200-yard medley relay and the individual 200-yard freestyle. Jordn Wolsky, Elise Altringer, Emily Brugman and Gabby Osborn teamed up for a 1:56.79 final time in the former, and Altringer’s 2:02.69 was good for the top spot in the latter, with fellow Majettes Caelin Flaten and Emma Rouse hot on her tail with respective times of 2:08.22 and 2:11.40.

Sam Vonbokern finished second in the 200-yard IM with a 2:21.36 final time to lead Minot High in the event, followed closely by Ava Wiliamson’s 2:22.48 in third place.

In the 50-yard freestyle, Gabby Osborn’s 26.84 final time paced Minot and was good for fourth place overall, and Wolsky and Brugman snagged the top two spots in the 100-yard butterfly with respective times of 1:02.68 and 1:05.49.

Reece Goodman finished second in the 100-yard freestyle with a final time of 59.30, with Payton Luzardo following closely behind with a mark of 59.55.

Vonbokern claimed her first victory of the evening in the 500-yard freestyle, outlasting all opponents with a 5:39.93 final time. Caelin Flaten finished second for Minot in the event with a 5:40.60 mark.

In other team action, the Majettes’ quartet of Wiliamson, Vonbokern, Osborn and Goodman finshed just behind the Mustangs for second place in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a 1:45.25 final time.

Wolsky later earned her second victory in the 100-yard backstroke with a 1:03.10 mark, Altringer lead all Majettes in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:12.46 mark good for second place, and the group of Vonbokern, Brugman, Wolsky and Altringer finished first in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a 3:45.85 final time.

On the diving board, it was Haley Conklin, Ella Kesler and Bella Price with the top three spots to represent the Majettes, with respective scores of 254.15, 238.50 and 236.15.

The Majettes will return to action Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. for an all-Western Dakota Association invitational against Century, Bismarck, Mandan and Legacy.

“We had a great meet with a lot of successes tonight,” Jensen added. “We appreciate Dickinson and Sheyenne coming. It is fun to dual those teams you might not see at all the meets. Tomorrow we will add a few teams, and there will be some great swims and dives.”
