State golf opens, Minot second after first round

The 2026 NDHSAA Boys State A Golf Championship and 2026 NDHSAA Boys State B Golf Championship opened up on Tuesday morning, June 2.

The Class A tournament kicked off at 10 a.m. at the Oxbow Country Club in Oxbow, ND with high winds.

Despite the difficult weather on Tuesday, the Minot High Magicians finished the first round of competition with a second place finish.

The Magi earned an overall score of 31 over par with sophomores Parker Argent and Tripp Toepfer leading the pack.

Both players ended the first round with a score of six over par. Parker earned his six with a double bogie on the sixth, seventh and thirteenth holes and bogies on the eighth and fifteenth holes. Argent also secured an eagle on the fourth hole to bring his score to six over.

Toepfer had a much more volatile round on Tuesday, earning six bogies and two double bogies over the course of the day while also securing four separate birdies.

The Minot North Sentinels ended the day not far behind, finishing in fourth place with a team score of 35 over par after the end of the first round.

Sophomore Teegan Dangel led the Sentinels on Tuesday with his individual finish tied for third place with a score of five over par. Dangel earned just one birdie and three double bogies on the round.

Senior Kyler Weishaar finished tied for thirteenth place individually with his score of seven over par. Weishaar’s first round features a birdie on the second hole and an eagle on the sixth.

The Grand Forks Red River Roughriders finished in first place overall at the end of the first round with a team score of 29 over par. Their senior Kolby Koerner finished first individually at just one over par, earning a birdie on the sixth hole and an eagle on the sixteenth hole.

The second round of the Class A Tournament will begin at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3.

The Class B State Boys Golf Tournament saw Oak Grove take home first place with a team score of just two over par on Monday after round one at the Cross Roads Golf Course in Carrington.

North Star High School finished second overall, but their senior golfer Myles Jorde led the Class B golfer individually with his round one score of six under par. His round included five birdies, one eagles and just one bogie.

Bishop Ryan ended the first round in twelfth place overall with their score of 48 over par.

The Lions were led by sophomore Calvin Olson and junior Tytan Lundeed, who both shot an 11 over par and tied for 77th at the end of the round.

The second round of the Class B Tournament will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June. 3.
