In 2003, the Minot High boys’ golf team earned the State Championship title. Just 23 years later, on Wednesday, June 3, they did it again.
The Magicians came into the second round of the 2026 NDHSAA Boys State A Championship just three strokes behind then leader Grand Forks Red River.
Sophomore Parker Argent and Tripp Toepfer led the Magi at the end of the first round, tying at sixth place with individuals scores of six over par.
During the second round of play, Argent earned an additional seven strokes over par and fell to ninth place individually.
Toepfer had a much stronger round two as compared to his round one performance.
He earned four birdies and one eagle during his second round of the course. He also earned just five bogies and one double bogie, giving him an individual score of just one over par for the second round.
Toepfer tied for second in round two with his one over par finish and finished alone in third place for the tournament with his final overall score of seven over par.
The Minot High boys all had a strong round two. Strong enough that it brought them to a tie with the leading Grand Forks Red River, both with team scores of 625 (49 over par).
The tie-breaker for the tournament came down to the individual score of the team’s fifth lowest-scoring player.
Minot’s fifth place golfer was one of the three tied members of the Magi. With the fourth place spot for the final score totals a tie between freshman Parker Wallner and Paxton Wallner and junior Connor Ressler at 23 over par, they each helped win the tie-break for the Magicians, securing the team’s first State Golf title in 23 years.
Grand Forks Red River’s senior Kolby Koerner was the individual medalist for the Class A State Golf Tournament, finishing in first place with his overall score of three over par.
Oak Grove took home the championship title in the 2026 NDHSAA Boys State B Championship on Wednesday with an overall final score of five under par. They were the only team to finish with a team score under par.
Senior Myles Jorde of North Star was the Class B Tournament’s individual medalist, repeating his round one score of six under par in round two to finish with an overall score of 12 under par.
