Prep Soccer: 5 local athletes earn all-state recognition

Two athletes on both the Minot High and Minot North girls soccer teams were named first-team all-state and Minot North’s Morgan Orth earned a spot on the second team, which was announced on Wednesday, June 3, by the North Dakota High School Coaches Association (NDHSCA).
Minot High’s Jayva McKibben and Kynsli Gillmore and Minot North’s Julia Lewis and Anistyn Perrin were four of 12 players on the first team. The Majettes and Sentinels were two of four teams to have multiple first-team selections, joining Regan Hodny and Taylor Hodny of Grand Forks Red River and Molly Flaherty and Hudson Hofer of Fargo Shanley.
McKibben finished third on the team in scoring with 16 points, scoring eight goals and a team-leading eight assists during the regular season. She recorded an assist in the state semifinal against Jamestown. Gillmore pitched 10 shutouts in 17 games. She finished with 70 saves this season.
Perrin led the Sentinels in scoring with 20 points, netting six goals and dealing out 14 assists. Lewis recorded a team-best 12 goals to go along with five assists for 17 points. Orth finished tied for third on the team in scoring with 15 points, scoring nine goals and recording six assists. Orth was the youngest member of the all-state team.
Twelve seniors, four juniors, three sophomores, two freshmen and one eighth grader received all-state nods.
Also named to the first team were Bismarck Century’s Addison Heck, Mandan’s Sarah Helderop, West Fargo Sheyenne’s Tenley McMenamy and Fargo Davies’ Quinn Skari.
Joining Orth on the second team were Bismarck Legacy’s Lila Healy and Berlynn Felchle, Davies’ Carter Ford and Chloe Soleim, Sheyenne’s Lily Engelking and Kaylie Gaffney, Bismarck St. Mary’s Stella Gallik, Century’s Jocelyn Haider, Mandan’s Adrianna Kautzman, Red River’s Addison Kortba and Fargo Shanley’s Emma Rohrich.
Helderop earned senior athlete of the year honors after eclipsing 100 goals for her career. She scored 33 goals during her senior season, including two at the state tournament.
Mandan’s Aaron McElwee was named coach of the year after guiding the Braves to a 17-1-1 record that included a WDA title and a second straight trip to the state title game.
