Minot High boys dominate Throwfest

Minot High seniors Jobe Rystedt and Kobe Irmen were the leaders, as the Magi dominated the field event known as ‘Throwfest,’ at the Duane Carlson Stadium on Saturday, April 27. Minot High won the varsity boys’ meet with 86 points with Hazen finishing second with 25 points. Powers Lake-Burke Central was third at four points at the event.

Rystedt placed first in the shot put with a 49-8 mark while Irmen won the discus with a 165-3 throw. In the shot put, the Magi claimed the top five throws with sophomore Blake Anderson, junior Lincoln Brooks, Irmen and junior Dylan Huber respectively representing Minot High.

Irmen was followed by Anderson in the discus while Hazen senior Davian Welch was third. Minot High seniors Teagan Nicholes and Derrick Arivett rounded out the top five respectively.

Kenmare-Bowbells-Burke Central juniors Gavin Gill and Payton Helwig were eighth and ninth respectively in the discus with 127 and 126-6 throws. The pair went 15th and 16th in the shot put as well with 36-8 and 36-2 for the Honkers at the event.

In the javelin, Minot High senior Heston Faul threw for 142-1 and was bookmarked by a pair of Hazen athletes. Senior Bohdan Obenauer at first with a 148-11 toss and junior Josh Kaelberer in third with a 128-11 mark. Irmen was fourth and junior Mason Eichhorn was fifth for the Magi in the top five.

In the girls events, Hatton-Northwood won with 50 points, while Minot High tied with Powers Lake-Burke Central second at 15 points.

In the shot put, Minot High sophomore Rylee Lamberth finished third with a 34-2 mark and junior Josie Rystedt was sixth for Minot North in the event. Hatton-Northwood senior Trista Bilden took first place with a 42-10 toss while sophomore teammate Elizabeth Pinke was second with a 40-6 mark. Kenmare-Bowbells-Burke Central juniors Lilibeth Santizo and Destinee Anderson were fourth and fifth respectively.

With the discus, Pinke won the event with a 122-5 toss while Killdeer junior Lainey Kucera was second with a 119 mark. For third place, Biden hit 117-feet for third place and Power Lake-Burke Central senior Klaire Gunderson was fourth with a 115-2 throw.

Minot High senior Eve Bland and Lamberth had fifth place and eight for the Majettes while Minot North’s Rystedt and junior Kaiya Chell were sixth and seventh respectively.

In the javelin, Bilden was first with a 119-11 mark for Hatton-Northwood while senior Aliza Schroeder was second with a 101-1 for Powers Lake-Burke Central. Pinke was third with a 96-7 toss. Watford City junior Kenzy Kuchenbuch finished fourth while Kenmare-Bowbells-Burke Central senior Alexia Holter was fifth with a 91-7 toss, four inches off the fourth place mark.

Minot High junior Sydney Aberle was seventh with a 76-3 while senior teammate Sylvia Cowper was eighth in the event. The Honkers junior Madelyn Sayler was ninth in the javelin and 13th in the shot put.

There were eight teams that participated in the event. Minot High was joined by Minot North, Hatton-Northwood, Hazen, Kenmare-Bowbells-Burke Central, Killdeer, Powers Lake-Burke Central and Watford City.
