MSU volleyball to host Homecoming tourney this fall

Sean Arbaut/MSU Minot State’s volleyball program released its schedule for the upcoming season on Thursday. It includes a non-conference tournament inside the MSU Dome during Homecoming weekend.

The Minot State volleyball team is gearing up for an exciting season on the hardwood and first-year coach Alex Courtney is pleased to announce an action-packed schedule for the 2024 season.

A schedule that not only features nine home NSIC matches but a thrilling non-conference tournament at the MSU Dome giving fans the chance to cheer on their Beavers as part of the Homecoming weekend festivities.

“I’m really looking forward to this 2024 season schedule, especially our preseason lineup,” Courtney said. “Minot State volleyball hasn’t hosted a preseason tournament since the 2017 season, so I’m excited to revive that tradition for us. The tournament will fall over Homecoming weekend, so campus will be buzzing and we hope to see alumni, boosters, family and friends at the games.”

The Beavers 2024 schedule will begin with an intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 31, at 2 p.m. at the MSU Dome, a final tune-up for Minot State before the team heads to Montana for the Yellowjackets Volleyball Invitational hosted by Montana State Billings, Sept. 6-7. The Beavers play the host Yellowjackets on Friday and Saturday, and two matches against Black Hills State, as well, at the tournament to officially open the season.

Then comes Minot State’s exciting new signature event with nine matches in two days as part of Homecoming on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 13-14. The tournament begins Friday at 10 a.m. with Mayville State taking on Brandon, from Manitoba, Canada. The event also features Medicine Hat, from Alberta, Canada, and Jamestown, with five matches slated for Friday and four more on Saturday.

Minot State makes its home and tournament debut at noon on Friday, Sept. 13, against Medicine Hat, then plays Jamestown at 6 pm on Friday to wrap up the day’s action. Saturday action begins at 9 a.m. featuring Mayville State against Medicine Hat with the Beavers in action at 11 a.m. as Minot State takes on Brandon. The Beavers wrap up the tournament battling Mayville State at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Following two non-conference tournaments, Minot State dives into NSIC action with a pair of home matches, hosting Southwest Minnesota State on Friday, Sept. 20, at 6 p.m. at the MSU Dome, then Augustana at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21.

After six matches at home, Minot State hits the road for a quick weekend trip, playing at Wayne State on Sept. 27, then at Sioux Falls on Sept. 28.

Back home to open October, the Beavers host Concordia, St. Paul on Friday, Oct. 4, at 6 p.m., before hosting Winona State at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5.

Next up, Minot State plays three straight on the road as they head to Minnesota State, Mankato on Oct. 11, then take on Southwest Minnesota State for the second time, playing in Marshall, Minn., on Oct. 12.

The Beavers wrap up the road stretch with their rivalry match, playing at the University of Mary on Thursday, Oct. 17, at 6 p.m. before a Saturday home match on Oct. 19 when Minot State hosts Northern State at 2 p.m. at the MSU Dome.
