Pirates, Lakers, Honkers, Bombers do battle

The wind was blowing, rain occasionally sprinkled and some baseball was played for the initial round of the Region 7 baseball playoffs at Lansfield field. The Tioga Pirates made the best of the blustery day.

No. 4 Tioga 14,No. 5 Kenmare/Bowbells/Burke Central 4

The Tioga Pirates had success batting as a team. The bats were 11-for-23 while being walked five times in the game. Junior Ashton Weathersby was 3-for-3 at the plate with four RBIs and junior Brennan Johnson was 2-for-2 batting with two RBIs as well. Junior Dominic Fosburgh was 2-for-3 while senior Hunter Davis, junior Nevada Meyer, eighth grader Weston Lalim and junior Yurek Loveridge each added a hit. Senior Kasey Odegaard pitched four innings, allowed four runs on one hit and walked five batters with seven strikeouts.

The Kenmare/Bowbells/Burke Central Honkers were 1-for-13 at the plate. The one hit was by Lalum who was also the starting pitcher. Lalum was on the mound for one and one-third innings and allowed seven runs on seven hits. Krecklau pitched one inning in relief and allowed five runs on four hits while Zorn pitched an inning as well and allowed no runs on no hits in the game.

No. 2 Des Lacs/Burlington 13, No. 3 Lewis & Clark-Berthold 3

Lakers senior P Ystaas and freshman C Abernathy were both 3-for-4 at the plate with six RBIs between the pair. T Hughes was 2-for-2 with three RBIs while Fisher, Schaafer, Ralph, Roedocker and Fisher each had a hit in the game. Des Lacs-Burlington was 13-for-26 with no batters walked in the game. Austin Kilbourn pitched five innings and allowed three runs on four hits with an earned run stat line of one run. He also totaled six strikeouts in the game

The Bombers from Lewis & Clark-Berthold were 4-for-19 batting as a team. Senior Sammuel Babinchak, sophomores Drew Erickson, Dylan Pank and freshman Daylon Yanish each had a hit in the game. Senior Gunnar Deaver pitched two and two-thirds innings while eighth grader Parker Neshem pitched one and one-third in relief. The two combined allowed 13 runs on 13 hits with an earned run mark of 10 while no batters were walked and two strikeouts.

The Region 7 competition continues with Renville County playing Des Lacs-Burlington today in Lunsford.
