Minot Minotauros playoff run ended early by Black Bears

BLAINE – The Minot Minotauros made the trip to Minnesota to play the Maryland Black Bears in the semifinals of the NAHL Robertson Cup. With a Friday, May 17, 7-3 loss and a Saturday, May 18, 6-2 loss the playoff run ended sooner than desired.

In game one, Maryland outshot Minot 29-28 and had seven penalties compared to four for Minot. Trevor Stachowiak scored two goals in the game- one in the first period and the other in the second period. Jack O’Hanisain scored as well. Niklas Ketonen, Nicholas Sewecke, Cayden Casey, Joel Lehtinen and O’Hanisain provided assists in game one.

In game two, Minot outshot Maryland 48-33 and had one more penalty (6) than Maryland (5) as well. Sewecke scored the first goal for Minot in the second period with assists by Colby Woogk and Stachowiak. Casey had the second goal in the second goal in the third period with the assist by Chad Muller.

Maryland will face the Lone Star Brahmas for the Robertson Cup. Had the Minotauros won the semifinal matchup, Minot skater John Emmons would have faced his younger brother Charlie Emmons in the Robertson Cup.
