Troop 425 to honor 101st and 102nd Eagle Scouts

Joshua Slama will become an Eagle Scout during a ceremony on Saturday.

On Saturday, Boy Scout Troop 425 of Minot will celebrate Chance Thompson and Joshua Slama becoming its 101st and 102nd Eagle Scouts during an Eagle Court of Honor being held at 3 p.m. at the Minot Gun Club, 1331 62nd Ave. NE. A reception is to follow the Court of Honor.

Chance is the son of Rick and Christine Thompson of Minot. He will be a 2023 graduate of Minot High School. He is currently working on an internship with a local electric company with a desire to continue with an apprenticeship after graduation.

His Scouting career began in Cub Scouts with Pack 428 at Bell Elementary School as a first grader. He earned the highest award in Cub Scouts – the Arrow of Light. In March 2016 Chance joined Boy Scout Troop 425. He has held the following leadership positions in his troop: historian, bugler (six years), chaplain aide, quartermaster, assistant patrol leader, patrol leader and junior assistant Scoutmaster. Currently, he is serving as an assistant Scoutmaster.

He has earned 42 merit badges and also will be receiving the Silver and Bronze Palms for earning 20 merit badges above the minimum 21 merit badges. He has also earned a number of special awards.

He has attended a number of camps, including National Youth Leadership Training Camp Parker near Brainerd, Minnesota. He is an Ordeal member of the Order of the Arrow, which is the Boy Scouts of America’s (BSA) Honor Society of Campers.

Chance Thompson will become an Eagle Scout during a ceremony on Saturday.

His Eagle Scout project involved planning, organizing and coordinating both volunteers and materials in constructing window planter boxes for the Congregational United Church of Christ, Minot, that display special messages.

Joshua, son of Thom and Tracey Slama of Minot, is a 2022 graduate of Minot High School. He will begin welding classes this fall at Bismarck State College. After earning his welding degree, he plans to become a manufacturing welder and hopes to eventually operate his own welding shop.

His Scouting career began in Cub Scouts with Pack 425 at Lewis and Clark Elementary School, where he earned the highest award in Cub Scouts – the Arrow of Light. In February 2015 he joined Boy Scout Troop 425. He has held the following leadership positions in his troop: historian, scribe (two terms), den chief (two terms), assistant patrol leader, OA representative, assistant senior patrol leader and junior assistant Scoutmaster. Currently, he is serving as an assistant Scoutmaster.

He has earned 40 merit badges and will also be receiving the Silver Palm for earning 15 merit badges above the minimum 21 merit badges. He has also earned a number of special awards.

He has attended a number of camps, including the High Adventure Canoe Trip to the Boundary Waters in Ely, Minnesota. He is an Ordeal member of the Order of the Arrow,, which is the BSA’s Honor Society of Campers.

His Eagle Scout project involved planning, organizing and coordinating both volunteers and materials for moving rock and weeds around the Congregational United Church, Minot, and installing ground cloth and then replacing the rock on top of the ground cloth. With the help of his 14 volunteers, the landscaping project was completed at the end of October 2021.
