Influenza, COVID-19, RSV decreasing in ND
Influenza, COVID-19 and RSV cases have decreased in North Dakota, according to recent data released by the North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services.
The current respiratory disease surveillance data for North Dakota is for the week ending Saturday, April 18.
The report provides a summary of respiratory disease activity in North Dakota, including influenza, COVID-19 and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).
Data is used for disease surveillance and monitoring of trends. All data are preliminary and subject to revision.
North Dakota reported 295 influenza cases from the prior week, 115 RSV cases and 38 COVID-19 cases.
Since the beginning of the 2025-26 respiratory season on Aug. 1, North Dakota has reported 13,191 influenza cases, 5, 274 COVID-19 cases and 1,868 RSV cases.
Vital records data show 27 influenza-related deaths, 42 COVID-19-related deaths and two RSV-related deaths reported during the season to date.
There were 10 influenza-related hospitalizations, 10 COVID-19 hospitalizations and 15 RSV weekly hospitalizations.
Season-to-date hospitalization totals statewide include 961 influenza-related hospitalizations, 776 COVID-19-related hospitalizations and 274 RSV-related hospitalizations.
Outpatient surveillance data collected through the Influenza-Like Illness Network (ILINet) indicated a statewide influenza-like illness percentage of .93%, a slight decrease from the prior week.
Influenza test positivity was 8.88%, a decrease from the prior week. COVID-19 test positivity increased to 3.06%, while RSV test positivity decreased to 6.47%.
State health officials also reported that 26.85% of North Dakota residents ages 6 months and older have received an influenza vaccination this season.
Based on current surveillance indicators, influenza and RSV activity in North Dakota were classified as moderate and RSV activity was categorized as low from the prior week statewide.
