Hungry for fresh veggies

Andrea Johnson/MDN Jim Heilmann purchases corn from Jeri Stromberg and Kelly Stromberg at the Minot Farmers Market in the parking lot at Oak Park on Aug. 18.

The Minot Farmers Market is in full swing, with hungry customers checking out vendors to find fresh vegetables, canned goods and other items.

Jim Heilmann, who attended the farmers market on Thursday, said the fresh corn he purchased from Jeri Stromberg and Kelly Stromberg is always better than what can be purchased at a grocery store.

Vendors from Kalix said they have been growing vegetables like beets, cucumbers, and cabbage at a Rainbow Gardens rented garden plot in southwest Minot.

Many people who came to the farmers market on Thursday were hoping to buy fresh tomatoes, but none of the vendors had them yet. They said the tomatoes are late this year and are not ready to be picked.

The Minot Farmers Market is held in the Oak Park Parking Lot and was also open last Saturday.

The North Prairie Farmers Market was held at the corner of 3rd Avenue SW and 1st Street SW on Saturday.

Farmers markets will run through October in Minot.

Starting at $2.99/week.
