A statue of two children that previously stood in Via View Park on the west side of the Broadway Bridge now has a new home at the corner of Broadway and Fourth Avenue.

On Thursday the statue was placed at the new site being developed. Prior to the major flood protection project, the statue was removed from the west side of the bridge and stored by the Minot Park District until a new area could be developed.

According to The Minot Daily News information, the 7-foot high bronze sculpture of two children bearing an American flag originally was purchased for the Minot Park District’s centennial celebration in 2011. In 2013, the park district began drawing up a plan to install the statue in Via View Park at Fourth Avenue and North Broadway where it was placed.

Originally the statue was to be placed near the Jack Hoeven ball diamonds and bark park but the park board decided Via View Park was an area more noticeable for people to see it, according to the history.

Now the statue has its new home not far from the new flood wall. The plans are for an American flag to be added to the statue.

Starting at $2.99/week.
