The Minot State football team was hoping to send its seniors out with a win, but Minnesota Duluth had other ideas.

The Bulldogs scored the game’s final 26 points over the last three quarters and limited the Beavers to 246 yards of total offense, handing Minot State a 33-7 defeat in its season finale on Saturday, Nov. 15, at Herb Parker Stadium.

A week after breaking out for 49 points and 301 yards on the ground and zero turnovers against Northern State, the Beavers mustered just a first-quarter touchdown, 225 yards rushing and committed two turnovers against Minnesota Duluth. Carson Chrisman scored the lone touchdown for the Beavers on a 26-yard run with 2:34 left in the first quarter to tie the game 7-7. Chrisman’s touchdown run capped off a 7-play, 75-yard drive.

It was all Bulldogs (10-1 overall, 9-1 NSIC) from that point on. Kyle Walljasper converted on a pair of short touchdown runs as part of a three-score day. Francis O’Malley tallied the fourth rushing touchdown for the Bulldogs late in the third quarter. His 20-yard scamper to the end zone gave Minnesota Duluth a 26-7 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Minnesota Duluth tacked on another touchdown in the fourth, this time through the air. Instead of scoring with his legs, Walljasper hit Nathan Litke for a 12-yard touchdown strike.

The Beavers couldn’t get much going on offense all game. No Minot State rusher eclipsed 100 yards on the ground. Chrisman led the rushing attack with 76 yards on 19 carries. Devan Daniels was second in rushing with 45 yards on nine carries.

Following a touchdown on their second drive of the game, the Beavers’ final seven full drives ended with three punts, two turnovers on downs, an interception and a lost fumble. Time expired on their eighth drive. The Bulldogs turned the fumble into Litke’s reception touchdown.

Walljasper outgained the Beavers by himself. The Bulldogs quarterback completed 13 of 20 passes for 120 yards and finished with a game-high 157 yards on 23 carries. Chrisman completed two passes for 21 yards and threw an interception.

The Beavers finished their 100th season 3-8 overall and 3-7 in the Northern Sun. They were 3-3 against the NSIC North Division.

Minot State averaged 23.9 points per game and rushed for an average of 284.1 yards per game.
