The Minot High Majettes girls’ soccer team took down the St. Mary’s Saints when they hosted their last regular season home game at Duane Carlson Stadium on Tuesday night, May 12.
The Majettes have had a whirlwind season so far. Coming into Tuesday’s game in second place in the WDA with a season record of 8-2-1, just behind the undefeated Mandan Braves, the Majettes carried their momentum straight through to a decisive victory against the Saints.
The Majettes got their start early with a pair of quick goals in the seventh and eighth minutes. Minot High junior Aleah Gibbons closed out the first half of the game with her eighth minute goal, giving the Majettes a 2-0 lead heading into half time.
The Majettes came back onto the field even stronger than in the first half, once again scoring another goal right out of the gate in the 43rd minute of the match. The ball was fired into the back of the net by sophomore Kaylee Jackson. Jackson quickly earned her second goal of the night in the 46th minute, bring the Majetees to a 4-0 lead.
The Majettes kept up the pressure, earning two more goals in the 60th and 74th minutes, scored by freshmen Ainsley McKibben and Brinley Bjertness respectively.
With the Saints unable to respond all game, the Majettes earned the clean sweep in their final home game, ending the night with a 6-0 victory and a new record of 9-2-1 for the season.
