Sentinels still have a path to state

The Minot North Sentinels played their last basketball game of the regular season in Williston against the Coyotes Tuesday, February 25.

Minot North and Williston stayed close though the first half of the game and ended with a 29-29 tie at half time. The Sentinels out scored the Coyotes in the second period and took the 80-71 win.

Minot North’s Kaiden Helm led the score for the Sentinels. With 33 points Helm outscored all players on both teams. Carson Sessing brought in 16 points for Minot North followed by teammate Camden Aufforth with 12.

Williston was led by Bridger Johnson and Solomon Harris each with 22 points. Chance Riverland made the Coyotes 11 points, all other athletes brought in less than 10 points

Overall through the season Helm led scoring for the Sentinels at just under 13 points per game (ppg) for 266 total points in Western Dakota Association (WDA) play.. Brayden Blikre was just behind him with 11.6 ppg and 231 overall in WDA play.

Tamari Carter holds the most rebounds. Carter has collected 27 offensive rebounds and 78 defensive rebounds. Carter also claims the most assists with 60 with Flavin trailing behind with 55.

Defensively Carter also holds several of the records; 39 deflections and 56 fouls. Carter and Blikre are tied at seven for the most blocks.

Minot North holds a 8-14 record going into the play-in bracket of the state qualifier. Their first game will be against the Williston Coyotes who they have beaten twice already this season.

The first time Minot North played Williston, the Sentinels won 71-67. Weeks later the Sentinels won 80-71. Minot North has shown improvement throughout the season and will need to keep improving to play through the qualifier tournament.
