Dissette named Gatorade Player of the Year

Sean Williams/MDN Darik Dissette (13) of Minot High celebrates a big play during the state tournament in Fargo.

Although his prep basketball career has come to an end, Minot High senior Darik Dissette continues to pile up accolades before he heads to Fargo to play for the North Dakota State University Bison.

On Wednesday, it was announced that Dissette was named the 2023 Gatorade North Dakota Boys Basketball Player of the Year, becoming the third player from Minot High to win the prestigious award.

Dissette joins Kenny Younger, who was a senior forward/center for the Magi during the 1995-96 season, and Ross Manson, who was a senior guard at Minot High during the 1988-89 season as all three members from Minot High to be named the Gatorade Player of the Year.

Helping the Magi make it back to the state tournament where they finished in fifth place, Dissette averaged 27.5 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per game this year.

During his senior campaign, he became the all-time scoring leader in Minot High history and broke the school record for most points in a single game when he netted 45 against Mandan in January.

It’s not just on the court that Dissette is a force, however, as he has an equal production in the classroom by maintaining a 3.62 GPA.

Already being named to the All-WDA Team and All-Tournament Team at state and being named the West Region Senior Athlete of the Year and the North Dakota High School Coaches Association Senior Athlete of the Year in 2022-23, Dissette can now call himself a Gatorade Player of the Year.
