4-H youth showcase talents, skills at Achievement Days

The hard work, creativity and community spirit of Ward County youth can be witnessed firsthand at the 94th Annual Ward County 4-H Achievement Days Friday, June 12, through Thursday, June 18, with a bonus event on Friday, June 19, at the North Dakota State Fairgrounds in Minot.
A total of 264 Cloverbud and 4-H members, ages 5-18, will showcase talents and skills they have developed throughout the year. Visitors can expect a wide range of exhibits, including static (non-living) projects, and pets, livestock, small animals and horse shows. All events and exhibit halls are free and open to the public.
Event highlights include:
-- Friday, June 12, 4-H Horse Show, Arena II, 8 a.m. Open to all 4-H horse exhibitors, including 4-H youth outside Ward County hoping qualify for North Dakota State Fair 4-H Horse shows.
-- Monday, June 15, Cat Show, Bunny Barn, 8 a.m.; Small Pet Show, Bunny Barn, 10 a.m.; Rabbit Show, Bunny Barn, noon.
-- Tuesday, June 16, Dog Show Obedience, Rough Rider Barn, 8 a.m.; Dog Show Showmanship, Rough Rider Barn, 9:30 a.m.; silent auction opens, FFA Hall, 3:30 p.m.; Static Interview judging, FFA Hall, 3:30-7 p.m. Youth will be individually interviewed by judges about their exhibits.
-- Wednesday, June 17, static exhibits and ribbon placings are available to view from 8 a.m.- 4 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday; Livestock Shows, Expo Building, 8 a.m., features swine, sheep, dairy and meat goats, as well as beef and dairy cattle; Livestock Round Robin Contest, Expo Building, 4 p.m. Top showmanship contestants compete in Round Robin by showing all livestock species.
-- Thursday, June 18, Livestock Skill-a-thon, Expo Building, 8 a.m.-to noon. 4-H exhibitors put their animal smarts to the test; Poultry Show, Poultry Barn, 8 a.m.- noon; Ag Olympics, Expo Building, 2 p.m.; 4-H Friends and Family BBQ annual gathering, FFA Hall, 4:30-6:30; silent auction closes, FFA Hall, 5:45 p.m.; Awards Program, FFA Hall, 5:45 p.m. Awards include Champion Fiber Arts Quilting, Champion Horseman, showmanship winners and Round Robin champions.
The event continues Thursday with the Pee Wee Pig Show, Expo Building, 7 p.m., offering an educational and entertaining opportunity open to all youth up to age 7. The youth walk a pig in the show ring with the help of 4-H members. The Livestock Premium Sale, Expo Building, begins at 7:30 p.m. Buyers support 4-H by bidding on exhibitors' livestock (swine, sheep, dairy and meat goats, and beef and dairy cattle). This sale is not terminal and these animals go home with their exhibitor.
