Before welcoming a new year, fireworks were lighting up throughout the Magic City on Friday with Class B boys’ and girls’ basketball teams all gathering for the New Year’s Shootout at the MSU Dome and day two of the Hoopster Classic over at the Minot Auditorium.

Additionally, local teams like Surrey and Bottineau made their way to Mandan to participate in the Mandan Holiday Tournament. In what has already been a fully loaded week of basketball, Friday was just the beginning of a massive weekend slate to close out 2022.

For the most part, it’s been either boys or girls playing on a specific day this week. Now, both were going as the skills and abilities of the wonderful athletes from around the area was truly on display.

Today will be the final day of all the pre-holiday action, as the New Year’s Shootout will continue at the MSU Dome. The Warwick and Mandaree boys’ basketball teams will get the day started with a noon tip.
