The Minot State men’s hockey team is adding a powerful piece to their team for the future to help anchor the Beaver defense.
Continuing to build the best team possible during a busy recruiting season, Minot State head coach Wyatt Waselenchuk is proud to announce that 6-foot-1, 201-pound star defenseman Ty Plaisier has signed to play with the Beavers, and will join the team as a freshman on the ice and in the classroom in the fall of 2026.
“We are ecstatic to welcome Ty to Minot State,” the Beavers coach said. “The phrase “Beaver Hockey” is a saying that we use within our locker room in terms of buying into our culture, a relentless work ethic, and being the ultimate teammate. Ty embodies this through and through.
“Every single person, whether it’s an opposing coach, a teammate, or a member in the Virden community has raved about Ty as a leader and as a young man.”
The Virden, Manitoba, product spent the last two full seasons with the Virden Oil Capitals of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, playing 98 regular-season games with 8 goals and 50 assists, and this season skated in 14 playoff games as Virden advanced to the McMunn & Yates Turnbull Cup Final. Plaisier finished the postseason with a goal and 7 assists in the Oil Capitals postseason run.
Plaisier also served as team captain for the Oil Capitals for the 2025-26 season.
“I couldn’t be more pumped to come to Minot State next season!” Plaisier said. “I’ve heard nothing but great things about the schooling, hockey, and the coaches. I can’t thank my former coaches, parents, and teammates enough for all the tremendous support throughout the years, and I am excited to take the next step in my academic and athletic journey.”
Prior to skating in Virden during the last two full seasons, Plaisier split time with the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League (WHL) and the Virden Oil Capitals during the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons, skating in 125 games that included 28 playoff games with Virden in those two seasons. He had 2 goals with 26 assists during those previous two seasons.
“He is a big, physical presence and a guy that will eat some big-time shut-down minutes for us,” Waselenchuk said of Plaisier. “We, as a staff, made it our goal this season to get bigger and tougher, and he will certainly help in that regard.
“We would like to welcome Ty and his family to Minot State!”
