Bison women targeting 27th consecutive title at Summit League Outdoor Meet

The North Dakota State women’s track and field team will target its 13th straight outdoor crown and its 27th straight team title overall this week at the Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Vermillion, South Dakota from May 13-15.

Since the Bison joined The Summit League prior to the 2008 season, there have been 26 league championship track and field meets – 14 indoor and 12 outdoor. All 26 trophies have been claimed by NDSU.

The NDSU women own the longest active streak of outdoor conference titles in all of Division I. Pre-meet projections have the Bison as the favorites again this year, with South Dakota as the top challenger.

The Bison enter the conference meet with seven of the league’s top eight performers this season in the shot put, including each of the top six on the list. NDSU also boasts four of the league’s top five throwers in the hammer and javelin.

NDSU’s women own the league’s top performance this season in eight of the 21 outdoor events – Jennie Baragar-Petrash in the 1500 and 5000, Jenna Kes in the 400 meter hurdles, Akealy Moton in the shot put, Michaela Hawkins in the discus, Maddy Nilles in the hammer throw, Kari Wolfe in the javelin, and the 4×400 relay.

The Bison also bring back defending champions Kelby Anderson (1500 and 10,000) and Amanda Anderson (discus) from the most recent outdoor conference meet in 2019. NDSU’s Peyton Frolek has captured the past two indoor Summit League titles in the 800.
