MSU volleyball drops home finale to Augustana

Alex Eisen/MDN Minot State middle hitter Emily Falldorf (12) tips the ball over the net Saturday afternoon against Augustana inside the MSU Dome.

The Minot State volleyball team pushed Augustana to four sets, but was handed another loss Saturday afternoon in the Beavers’ home finale inside the MSU Dome.

Augustana (19-8, 12-6 NSIC) won by set scores of 25-22, 23-25, 25-16, 25-21.

MSU (3-24, 2-16 NSIC) held an 18-13 lead in the first set but couldn’t hang on down the stretch. The Vikings strung together five straight points and then limited the Beavers to four more points in the frame.

Minot State controlled a majority of the second set as well. This time, however, they finished the job off. A pair of kills from senior Shelby Spuller and an attack error sealed a 25-23 set win.

Spuller finished with a match-high 18 kills, giving her 1,246 career kills — 143 kills behind the school’s Division II record. With only two matches remaining, Spuller is likely to come up a tad short.

Amarrie Welton (nine kills) and Emily Falldorf (eight) nearly eclipsed double-digits. Setter Mackenzie Froehlich provided 42 assists.

Defensively, Karli Koza (33 digs), Shae Pedersen (15) and Quinn Billaney (12) led the way.

The Beavers wrap up the season next weekend against Sioux Falls on Friday (Nov. 15) and Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday (Nov. 16).
