One person was displaced in a mobile home fire in Holiday Village on Monday, July 27, according to the Minot Rural Fire Department. The department was called shortly after 11 a.m. for a report of a house on fire. Firefighters en route called Minot, Burlington and Surrey departments for assistance after assessing the amount of smoke viewed to be coming from the fire. Smoke surrounded the structure, with fire on the northeast corner. Firefighters brought the fire under control within a half hour and a search found the building empty. A pedestrian was struck when two-vehicles crashed at the intersection of 11th Avenue Southwest and First Street Southwest Monday, July 27. According to the Minot Police Department, at about 5:14 p.m., patrol officers responded to the crash at the intersection. The preliminary investigation determined the driver of a 2016 Toyota Highlander was exiting a bank parking lot and failed to yield to a 2023 Toyota Corolla traveling eastbound on 11th Avenue Southwest. GARRISON – A 5-year-old Velva child lost his life in an accidental drowning at Lake Audubon on Sunday, July 26, according to the McLean County Sheriff’s Office. Grayson Olson was playing on the shore with a young sibling when he entered deeper water and became submerged. Immediate efforts by the mother and accompanying adult to recover the child were unsuccessful, the sheriff’s office reported.
