Open house set for outgoing MPS superintendent

Mark Vollmer

The public is being invited to join Minot Public Schools on Monday, June 17, for an open house for outgoing superintendent Mark Vollmer, who will be retiring at the end of the month.

The district is celebrating Vollmer’s 22 years with MPS at the open house to be held at the Minot Area Workforce Academy from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Speakers will begin at 3:45 p.m. and light refreshments will be served for those in attendance.

Vollmer, a former Willow City teacher and high school principal, entered MPS in 1998 as an assistant principal. Three years later Vollmer became the head principal at Magic City Campus, a position he held for six years until he was promoted to superintendent of the Minot Public School District.

Vollmer led the district through the 2011 flood, flood recovery, a boom, a bust, a pandemic and all the unique challenges these events presented to students and educators. He also spearheaded two bond issues which led to the building of the new Minot North High School, the first new high school to be built in Minot in 50 years.

“I’ve loved every minute of it. It’s been a great experience,” said Vollmer. “I hope I am remembered fondly in our district.”

Starting at $2.99/week.
