Class B state baseball begins in Jamestown

The Championship teams from all eight regions of North Dakota Class B baseball are in Jamestown to compete in this year’s NDHSAA Class B Baseball State Tournament held at Jack Brown Stadium. The tournament begins at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 28, with Park River Area taking on the Shiloh Christian Skyhawks.

The Park River Area Aggies had a strong regular season, fighting through to a second place seeding for the Region 4 Tournament. The Aggies won their quarterfinals match against Grafton and advanced to the semifinals to take on the first-seeded Langdon Area/Muni­ch Cardinals.

Though they fell to the Cardinals 4-3, the Aggies once again paired into Grafton, and won their loser-out game in a decisive 16-7.

The Aggies came face to face again with the Cardinals in the Championship game. Due to their earlier tournament loss, the Aggies needed two wins against the Cardinals to claim the Region 4 title.

The Aggies took down the Cardinals 11-5 in the first game of the championship, and secured the second championship game with a close 10-9 victory over the Cardinals.

With the Region 4 tile secured, the Aggies punched their ticket to the State Tournament.

The Des Lacs-Burlington Lakers have had a stellar season up to this point.

Through the end of the Region 7 Tournament, the Lakers have earned a season record of 24 wins and just three losses. Their three losses were all to out of region teams.

With the Lakers’ dominant regular season, they entered their Region Tournament as the first seed.

The took down the sixth-seeded Berthold with a 13-0 shut out in the tournament quarter finals and shut out third-seed Kenmare/Bowbells/Burke Central in the semifinals 10-0.

The only team to score a single run on the Lakers in the Region Tournament was the second seeded Renville County, who earned just four runs over the course of the Region 7 Championship game. Despite Renville County’s best efforts, the Lakers secured nine runs during their time at the plate, securing themselves the Region 7 title and a spot in the State Tournament.

The Lakers will face off against the Region 1 Champions Kindred Vikings beginning at 4:30 p.m. for their quarterfinal game.

The Velva-Drake/Anamoose Aggies will close out he first round of competition on Thursday evening as they take on the LaMoure/Litchville-Marion/Edgeley Loboes.

The Aggies met little resistance working their way through Region 6. The Aggies accumulated a record of 23 wins and five losses through the regular season and entered their Region Tournament as the first seed.

The Aggies faced off against Central McLean in the tournament quarterfinals and the second-seeded Bishop Ryan/Nedrose Lions in the tournament semifinals, winning both games 13-4 and 2-1 respectively.

The Lions worked their way back to the Region Championship after their victory over the Garrison Troopers, but the Aggies once again took them down, this time with a 10-0 shutout for the Region Championship.

The Aggies’ victory sent them to the State Tournament, and they are scheduled to close out day one of tournament play in Jamestown beginning 35 minutes after the conclusion of the previous game.
