WILLISTON — The Williston Police Department is investigating an incident that officials are describing as an attempted murder-suicide.

According to a release, the department responded to a report of a domestic violence incident on Tuesday, with dispatch being informed that there was an unresponsive female who had sustained a gunshot wound. Officers located the female victim inside the residence and identified her as Jodee Fuhrmann, 59. Officers determined Fuhrmann had a single gunshot wound to the head. She was life-flighted to a medical facility and remains in critical condition.

A search of the residence led to the discovery of a male suspect who also had a gunshot wound to the head that appeared to be self-inflicted. The suspect has been identified as Fuhrmann’s husband, John Fuhrmann, 48, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The department’s release stated that the initial investigation indicates the incident was an attempted murder-suicide. Investigators believe that during a verbal domestic altercation, John Fuhrmann had fired a single round at Jodee Fuhrmann, striking her, and then shot himself.
