Christopher Berdahl, Minot, charged with multiple thefts

Christopher Michael Berdahl, 31, Minot, is accused of stealing a work truck from a former employer and setting it on fire on Aug. 26.

Berdahl is charged in district court in Minot with Class B felony theft, Class B felony criminal mischief, Class C felony burglary, four counts of Class C felony theft of property, one count of Class C felony possession of drug paraphernalia, and Class C felony possession of methamphetamine.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court, Berdahl allegedly stole a 2008 Dodge Ram pickup from a secure garage. The pickup had tools and equipment in it, including multiple saws, drills and battery chargers of various types, an air compressor, and an extension ladder.

The burned truck was later recovered at a different location. The tools that had been in the vehicle were later found hidden under a boat on a property associated with Berdahl. At the same time, authorities recovered other property that had been stolen during other recent thefts, including two generators stolen from Midcontinent Communications on Aug. 30, various power tools stolen from an individual on Aug. 26, and a Kawasaki motorcycle that had been reported stolen by another man on Aug. 28. Authorities also located meth and meth paraphernalia.

Berdahl made an initial appearance on the charges on Tuesday before Judge Todd Cresap, who set bond at $25,000 cash or corporate surety and set a preliminary hearing date for Oct. 14.
