Girls Soccer: Sentinels, Demons play to 1-1 draw
The Minot North girls soccer team ran its unbeaten streak to five games and secured another point in the WDA standings with a 1-1 draw against Bismarck High on Tuesday, April 21, at Sanford Sports Complex.
Morgan Orth netted the equalizer in the 46th minute off a service into the box from Brengiei Lonning. Lonning’s ball was mishandled by a Bismarck High defender, allowing a scoring chance for Orth. The eighth grade forward took a shot near post that deflected off the gloves of Bismarck High goalkeeper Gabby Bruer and into the net to square the match.
The Sentinels (6-1-1 overall, 6-1-1 WDA) outshot the Demons 11-3.
Minot North found itself playing from behind from the start, conceding a goal in the first minute to Hayden Chathams. Chathams blocked a clearing attempt from the Sentinels that landed at the feet of Sydney Henriksen, who fed a pass back to Chathams and she snuck a shot under the mitts of Minot North goalkeeper Camryn Guy to give the Demons (1-6-2, 1-5-2) the early lead.
Bruer finished with 10 saves and Guy made a pair of stops.
The Sentinels travel to play defending state champion Mandan on Wednesday, April 22, at 5 p.m.
