Murder victim identified as Alytreus Clifton

Minot police identified the victim of a murder in Minot as Alytreus C. Clifton, 22, of Minot. Police say that Duell McCall Clifton, 25, Minot, is in custody in South Dakota in connection with the murder and is to be be charged in district court in Minot with Class AA felony murder and Class C felony tampering with physical evidence.

Alytreus C. Clifton appears to have been the wife of Duell Clifton. Duell McCall Clifton and Alytreus Cierah Rowe were married in the spring of 2018, according to a listing of marriages that was provided to The Minot Daily News by the Ward County Recorder and was published in the May 14, 2018 edition. Police did not identify the relationship between the Cliftons when they released the victim’s name on Wednesday.

The last post on a Twitter page that appears to belong to Alytreus Clifton was on June 4.

According to police, Minot Central Dispatch received a request for a welfare check on a woman in southeast Minot at 4:59 p.m. on Monday. Information gathered at during the investigation led to South Dakota. At 11:33 p.m. Monday, South Dakota law enforcement went to a residence in Faith, S.D. They located Alytreus Clifton, who was deceased and subsequently arrested Duell Clifton for the murder. Clifton will remain in custody in South Dakota pending an initial appearance and will later be transported back to Ward County to face the murder charge.

Court documents in the case have been sealed by a judge.
