Golfers punch tickets to state

GARRISON – Several area golfers punched their ticket to the 2024 NDHSAA Boys Golf Class B Championship on Monday, as the first individual qualifier took place at the Garrison Golf Course.

Max Palmer of Bottineau birdied three holes before he saw his lone bogey on No. 18 to finish with a 2-under par 70. Palmer’s 70 was the only round under par, as the senior took medalist honors.

Carson Heilman, of Harvey-Wells County finished second with a 73, while Bryce Zietz, of Rugby, and Payne Wilkie, of Northern Lights, both shot a 74 to finish tied for third.

Our Redeemer’s Payten Lindbo finished with the low Minot area score, shooting a 75 to place fifth overall. Lindbo birdied three of his final six holes to negate a double-bogey on 11 and a bogey on 12, finishing the back-nine with an even par 36.

Rounding out those who achieved a state qualifying score within seven strokes of par were Michael Felchle, of Harvey-Wells County, and Jett Lundeen, of Bishop Ryan, who each shot a score of 76 to finish tied for sixth; and the trio of Kayl Seig, of Harvey-Wells County; Will Artz, of Westhope-Newburg; and Franklin Graumann, of Harvey-Wells County; each of whom carded 79s to qualify.

Harvey-Wells County placed four golfers in the top ten, and depth allowed the Hornets to finish atop the team standings with a 309.. Rugby was runner-up, shooting a 322, two strokes better than Northern Lights, who was third with a 324. Westhope-Newburg (329) and Our Redeemer’s (334) rounded out the top five.

Other Minot-area teams competing included Bishop Ryan (369), Velva (392), South Prairie-Max (397) and Drake-Anamoose (+130).
