U.S. Marshals capture man wanted for attempted murder in California

Members of the U.S. Marshals Service’s High Plains Fugitive Task Force from Bismarck arrested Demitrius Haygood, 22, in Minot at about 1:05 p.m. Wednesday. Haygood has an outstanding warrant for attempted murder from The Superior Court of California in Sacramento County, California, according to a press release.

According to the press release, Haygood is accused of shooting another man during an altercation in Sacramento and then fleeing to North Dakota.

Task force members in Bismarck received a tip from the U.S. Marshals Service’s Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force in Sacramento that Haygood was in Minot. They staked out the 800 block of 43rd Street SE, watched Haygood come out with another person and leave in a vehicle. They followed Haygood to a gas station and to a store and were waiting for him when he returned to the residence and arrested him.

Haygood is being held at the Ward County Jail pending extradition to California.
