MSU baseball’s win streak ends with two losses to St. Cloud State

ST. CLOUD, Minn – The Minot State baseball team’s eight-game win streak came to an end on Wednesday, as the Beavers (26-14, 19-8 NSIC) suffered a pair of losses to No. 4-ranked St. Cloud State (33-7, 21-5 NSIC) on the road by scores of 2-1 and 5-0.

The Huskies scored their only two runs of the first game in the opening inning thanks to a two-run homer by Mathew Meyer. It wasn’t until the top of the seventh inning that senior Andrew Black got the Beavers on the board with a solo dinger, but St. Cloud State still held on for the 2-1 win.

Once again, St. Cloud State kicked off the second game with a home run in the opening inning. Mitch Mallek did the honors this time around with a solo shot out of the park. The Huskies then added two runs to their total in both the sixth and the seventh inning to take a 5-0 lead.

Unlike the first game, the Beavers were unable to make a late push and failed to get on the scoreboard in the 5-0 loss.

Next up for Minot State is a four-game series against Minnesota Duluth this weekend at Corbett Field. Saturday’s doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m., while first pitch for Sunday’s doubleheader is set for noon.
