Beeter to bowl at next level for Viterbo University

Adam Papin/MDN Peyton Beeter, center, signs her national letter of intent to bowl at Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin, as her parents, Jenny (left) and Brandon (right) Beeter watch. Viberto head coach Terry McKinney watches from the second row.

During her career bowling for Minot High while attending Bishop Ryan, Peyton Beeter proved herself as one of the best prep bowlers in North Dakota, including winning two individual state championships. She also helped the Minot Gold team win the varsity team title this past season.

Starting in the fall, Beeter will be taking her talents to LaCrosse Wisconsin, where she will bowl for the Viterbo University, a Catholic University that competes at the NAIA level.

“We watched her bowl the last two years at a combine in Minnesota,” said Viterbo V-Hawks women’s bowling head coach Terry McKinney. “A lot of it is her demeanor on the lanes. She just seems to have a great attitude, but her bowling . . . You just tell that she’s a good bowler just by watching her bowl.”

Beeter was drawn to the school because of the beauty of the campus that overlooks LaCrosse.

“It’s a good campus, like the bowling team,” said Beeter. “Good coach. Everything is beautiful.”

She discovered the university while bowling at a collegiate tournament in December, where she bowled with a member of Viterbo’s team, and then connected with the team.

Beeter plans on studying elementary education while competing for the V-Hawks. McKinney spoke to the adjustment Beeter will make.

“The biggest adjustment going from high school to college is going to be time management,” said McKinney. “We’re a little more competitive, so we’ll be practicing four days a week, two hours a day and then we’ll have long weekends going to tournaments.”

Viterbo competes in the collegiate levels under the sanction of the United States Bowling Congress (USBC).
